I don't know if this is a compliment or not, but I think that if I was ever in a band, I'd want my band to be just like Okkervil River in every way. Tight band that can play rock and roll just as well as tears-in-your-beer folk, a perfect balance between sonic experimentation and pop sensibilities, well-written lyrics and a huge dose of passion.
